Welcome to Being Balanced Psychological Services

Neuropsychological Evaluations in Franklin, Tennessee!

At Being Balanced, we are dedicated to providing holistic health services that promote wellness and balance in the mind, body, and spirit. That's why we have partnered with Being Balanced Psychological Services to offer you a deeper understanding of your brain.

Neuropsychological Evaluation (Well, that sounds intimidating doesn't it?!) is like a detective work for your mind and behavior. It's a process that combines different techniques to help us understand you better – your personality, abilities, and behavior. It's important to note that Neuropsychological Evaluation isn't the same as Psychotherapy. Unlike therapy, it involves specialized psychological tests administered by a licensed psychologist with expertise in neuropsychology.

Dr. Leslie offers in depth neuropsychological evaluations to help you have an "operators manual"  for your brain. She's a pro and has years of experience to help you figure out all the things! The main goal of this assessment is to figure out how your brain works (like attention, memory, problem-solving), emotions, behavior, or physical abilities and what you can do about it. We're here to find out what's going on and suggest ways to help you get back on track.

Neuropsychological Evaluation isn't just about figuring things out—it can also be a great tool for planning ahead and keeping tabs on your brain's performance. For example, if you're gearing up for surgery, it helps us establish a "normal" baseline so we can see how things change afterward. Plus, it's like a roadmap for diagnosis and treatment planning, especially when it comes to improving your quality of life and daily functioning.

It's not just for individuals; it's a resource for parents, teachers, doctors, social workers, and mental health pros too. It gives everyone insights into how all the cogs in the brain machine work together and how to best support someone in need, whether it's a family member or a client. Think of it as a team effort to help you or your loved one thrive.

During the evaluation, we'll have a chat about your background and what's been bothering you. You'll also complete some standard tests and fill out questionnaires to give us a better idea of what might be affecting you physically or mentally. It's all part of our mission to help you live your best life.

Common reasons for Neuropsychological Evaluation include:

  • Concerns regarding Attention, Memory, Motivation, etc.
  • Evaluations for early entrance into kindergarten
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder evaluations for children and adults
  • Developmental delay evaluations
  • Bariatric evaluations or pre-surgery required evaluations
  • Evaluations required for employment, such as a Police Officer
  • Evaluations for Aging Concerns (Dementia, Alzheimer)
  • Stroke, Concussion, Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Learning Concerns
  • Fetal Alcohol or Chemical exposure in Utero
  • Birth Concerns

Frequently Asked Questions

The Neuropsychological Evaluation process takes place in four primary stages:

      1. The intake interview is conducted between the client (and parents if the client is a minor) and the psychologist. The purpose of this interview is to obtain background information, discuss  concerns, and identify the objectives for the evaluation. This process can take 45 – 120 minutes.

    2. Testing: Testing may take place over the course of one or more sessions lasting up to 8  hours per session. The total testing time usually ranges between 4 – 20 hours, depending on the individual needs of the client and the assessments administered.

   3. Scoring, Interpretation, and Report Writing: Your psychologist will score and interpret the results from testing. In addition, your psychologist may prepare a report depending on your needs. The amount of time dedicated to this process typically ranges from 2-20 hours dependent on the complexity of the case.

This time includes a review of released records. A delay in the receipt of records will delay your results session. Typical response time for the receipt of noncomplex records ranges from 10-14 business days. Complex or lengthy records can take up to one month to receive. Further, these records must be compiled and reviewed as well as integrated into your report which can also be a lengthy process, dependent on the length of records.

This report will NOT be released to outside parties without consent or court order. Your psychologist will review the scores and interpretation of scores with you prior to the release of the report, unless this waived with the understanding that the report may not be accurate.

     4. Feedback Meeting :  Your psychologist will invite you to a feedback meeting to provide interpretation about the testing results, review diagnostic impressions, and discuss treatment recommendations. This meeting will take place about 3-4 weeks after the completion of the above process (dependent on the receipt of outside records and appointment availability for both yourself and the provider) and will last approximately 30-45 minutes.

You will not receive your report at this time as it is not uncommon for new information to be presented in this review session. You will typically receive your report if authorized within 1 day to 2 weeks following this feedback session (again dependent on the complexity of the case).

In addition to the stages of the Neuropsychological Evaluation described above, other services are sometimes necessary. For example, your psychologist may find it helpful to speak with other professionals involved in your care, or your child’s care. Such professionals can include teachers, physicians, counselors, or other psychologists. For some children, a school observation may be recommended to provide a better idea of how your child is functioning in his or her educational setting. In some cases, your evaluation may include an interview with your closest family member(s) and/or significant other(s). If consultation with outside parties is necessary, you will be asked to sign an Authorization to Release Information form prior to any communication unless communication is allowed under HIPAA.

Guess what? When it comes to these evaluations, age is just a number! Kids as young as 18 months and everyone older than that can get in on the action. It's not just for grown-ups; we've got techniques and tests that work for all ages. So whether you're a toddler or a full-fledged adult, we've got your back when it comes to understanding your brain and behavior

To ensure the safety and well-being of all our clients, we have a policy regarding children in our waiting area. We are unable to accommodate unattended children in the waiting room as it can present safety concerns due to the lack of supervision during this time.

We kindly request that parents and guardians arrive no earlier than ten minutes before their child's scheduled appointment and remain with their child throughout the appointment. Please note that we do not offer childcare services, so it's essential for a responsible adult to be present during the entire appointment. Your cooperation in adhering to this policy helps create a safe and comfortable environment for everyone. If you have any questions or need further clarification, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. We appreciate your understanding.

At Being Balanced Psychological Services PLLC, we want to be upfront about our insurance policy.

We are not an in-network provider for insurance, which means we won't directly bill your insurance company.  Most of our services are considered “out of network”. Your insurance provider may cover out-of-network services. We will happily provide you with a superbill after paying for the evaluation, which can be provided to your insurance provider for potential partial reimbursement. Most patients receive 50-80% insurance reimbursement for services. Reimbursify is a helpful site for this process and can be found here: https://reimbursify.com/individual-page/   If you have any questions about this process, please feel free to get in touch with us. We're here to assist you every step of the way.

Our services are eligible for Health Savings Account (HSA) reimbursement and possibly out of network reimbursment. We'll send you an invoice for the services you receive, and you can submit this invoice to your HSA for reimbursement.    It's a straightforward way to handle payments and ensure you can access the care you need while maximizing your HSA benefits.

Our goal is to provide you with services that are comprehensive, individualized, and timely. We want decisions about your care to be made by you and your provider, not insurance employees. We want to complete the assessments that we feel are medically best, not just ones more likely to be paid by an insurance company. Insurance companies require a diagnosis and make it a permanent part of the patient’s medical record. You should be able to choose if  you want to do that.

Insurance companies do not cover testing for learning and attentional concerns, as well as many other areas that are often necessary to include in comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations. Although the insurance company will indicate the evaluation is covered, it has generally left the clinic/ provider without compensation.  Out-of-network services are a way for us to maintain a high standard of care in a financially sustainable way.

Your psychologist has a lot of important work to do to provide you with the best evaluation possible. They need to gather records, score assessments, conduct interviews, and write up the evaluation. Now, here's the thing – this part of the process takes time, and it can't all happen during your face-to-face appointments.

So, it's important to know that this additional time, when your psychologist is working behind the scenes, is a billable service. That means, even when you're not physically present for a session, you're still receiving valuable services that contribute to the comprehensive evaluation. It's all part of the process to ensure you get the best care and assessment possible. If you have any questions or concerns about billing, feel free to reach out, and we'll be happy to clarify things for you.

Our services are offered at a rate of $325.00 per hour.

Most evaluations can be completed in approximately 10 hours (Dr. Leslie is a pro with more than 20 years experience, and she is efficient!) . The average cost for an evaluation is between $2600.00 to $3575.00.

Depending on your current health insurance provider or employee benefit plan, services may be covered in full or part as part of your out of network benifits. Please contact your provider to verify how your plan compensates you for neuropsychological services.

It is recommended to ask these questions to your insurance provider to help determine your benefits:

  • What are my out-of-network benefits?
  • How much is my deductible?
  • After I meet my deductible, what percentage of the visit cost will I be reimbursed for?
  • For neuropsychological evaluation, ask up to how much can I be reimbursed for:
    • 60-minute intake appointment (CPT Code 90791)
    • Neuropsychological Testing (CPT Code 96136 for the first 30 minutes, CPT Code 96137 for each additional 30 min)
    • Neuropsychological Services (CPT Code 96132 for the first 60 minutes, CPT Code 96133 for each additional hour)
    • 60 minute feedback session (CPT Code 96133)
  • Do I have a limit on how many units of 96137 or 96133 I can get reimbursed for?
  • How do I submit a claim with the receipt my doctor gave me?

We believe in providing high-quality care to ensure you or your loved ones get the best support possible. We do our very best to work quickly and efficiently to reduce your cost.  If you have any questions about our pricing or need further information, feel free to reach out to us. We're here to help.
